3 Missionaries
Yesterday, we had the privilege of making a quick trip to Southern Utah and back in order to spend the day with our good friends, the Christensens. Our friends, the Provards, had already gone down the day before. The Provard, Christensen and Taylor families were all expecting first children (3 boys!) within 4 months of each other. Elder Conor Christensen (enters the MTC on October 2, 2013; the Czech Prague Mission / Slovak Region) will soon join the other 2 (Elder Ken Provard, entered MTC on February 27, 2013; New Mexico Farmington; and Elder Adam Taylor, entered MTC on February 20, 2013; Texas Fort Worth, Spanish speaking).
It was a great day to be together. We are grateful for our friends whom we are blessed to call family. We are also so very pleased with the choices and decisions these 3 friends have made to serve the Lord.

Working Girl
Today we went to pick up Lyssa's final paycheck and have her turn in her uniform pieces. She had the opportunity of working at her very first non-babysitting paying job! She was able to work in Food Services at Hogle Zoo this summer. She had a great experience there. I am grateful to her Young Women's President who told her about the job and put in a good word for her during the interview process - and who gave her rides periodically! She was able to reach her goal of earning enough money to purchase her very own laptop!

25 Years?!?!!!!
Sooo....
Bobi and I were reminiscing about our day 25 years ago and she said she wanted to scan in some pictures and post them so we could all enjoy them. Well she is lying down at the moment and I wanted the first opportunity to post. She will probably do so later and correct some things I might say. I scanned 2 of my favorites and, oh boy have things changed, and some have not.
I had hair, I was thinner, I look like a kid, not a 24 year old who is starting a family. These things have changed. What is the same is that I look happy and she is beautiful.
Now I am not so thin, but my hair is, and much grayer too. I look much older and am sure that I know a bit more and am better prepared for life than I was then. My family is here and mostly grown, the kids that is. Bobi and I are moving into a new period of our lives. If I could snap a picture of that person - the individual who is embarking on this new period of our lives, I expect he would look much like the man in this picture, young and excited but a bit scared and unprepared. With Bobi by my side then I made it through the new experiences. With her by my side now I joyfully move forward into this new opportunity.
She was beautiful and breathtaking then.....
And she is evermore so now.

Community helps struggling family
Members, missionaries answer call to serve
FORT HOOD, TEXAS
He can't walk or talk yet, but 5-month-old McCoy Roberts has brought his family and community together.
Baby McCoy was born in January 2013 at Fort Hood, Texas. His father, A.J. Roberts, and mother, Kendra Roberts, were alarmed to discover that he was born with several rare birth defects. After he was flown to several hospitals, his parents learned they would need to take him to Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore, Md., so he could have his first two major surgeries.
Brother Roberts' parents took their other children, ages 3 and 5, to Utah. Elder L. Mike Smith, a senior missionary assigned to support members on the base, was concerned that during their two-month-long absence, the Roberts would be fined by the city for their neglected yard.
In the midst of the overgrown bushes, Elder Smith saw a chance to serve. This young military family was struggling, and both he and Bryan Norgaard, a ward member, friend and fellow soldier, took inventory of the many odd jobs that would make the house a little more welcoming. They decided to make it an opportunity for the community to help.
"My hope was to make it a real community thing, to see the Church in action," Elder Smith said.
Various groups and people came forward with their particular skills and resources. Dave Ellis of EZ Doors repaired the garage door. The local Lowes and Home Depot donated $1,000 worth of supplies. A ward member offered BELCO construction equipment while neighbors loaned tools to the volunteers. Lee and Kay Harrold, retired soldiers, answered a newspaper ad and brought both supplies and willing hands to the project. A local minister donated 10 gallons of paint and brushes.
"We were able to get most of the community involved," Elder Smith said.
Twelve elder and sister missionaries, including four from the local Killeen 1st Ward, came to the house for two days to build a playground, paint the porch, do yard work and deep-clean the house.
Members, missionaries, neighbors, military friends and community members answered the "call to serve" to welcome this family home. What began as a trial for this baby and his parents became an opportunity to bring a family and a community together through service.

The Newest Medical Challenge...
for Bobi.
Ouch!
Yes. It is shingles. Under my left ear.
Thankfully, I went to the doctor within 24 hours and am taking anti-viral medication. The doctor was confident we caught it early enough and got me on medication early enough that it should be cleared up within the week. Yeah!
Thank heavens for small (large) miracles!

Just Breathe
So, we've finally had a chance to breathe, take a moment to gather in all that has happened in the past several weeks, and..... REMEMBER OUR PASSWORD TO OUR BLOG!!!!
This is why we haven't been able to keep y'all, rather all y'all (better get used to it, Adam will be speaking like this in a short time) posted. Now that we have caught up with technology again, we plan to remember how we did this and keep you updated on Adam's progress, the family's progress, as well as individually.
Much to write, but I will let Bobi handle it from here with an occasional note from myself.
